Colorado transgender first-grader Coy Mathis wins civil rights case
The Colorado Civil Rights Division has ruled in favor of Coy Mathis, a 6-year-old transgender girl who was barred from using the girls’ bathroom at her elementary school, pictured above.
"Schools should not discriminate against their students, and we are thrilled that Coy can return to school and put this behind her," Kathryn Mathis, Coy’s mother, said in a statement. "All we ever wanted was for Coy’s school to treat her the same as other little girls. We are extremely happy that she now will be treated equally."

UPDATE: Black Forest fire burns 379 homes but does not advance overnight
Firefighters on Friday will continue to battle the Black Forest fire north of Colorado Springs that has consumed 15,700 acres and 379 homes since it started Tuesday.
Some 38,000 people are impacted in the mandatory evacuation zone that covers 24 square miles, stretching from Elbert County to the northern part of Colorado Springs.

UPDATE: 2 confirmed dead in Black Forest fire; 360 homes destroyed
At least two people have been killed so far in the Black Forest fire, El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said Thursday.
Two bodies have been recovered from the fire zone so far. One of the victims had told others by phone that he was trying to leave the area, Maketa said. An investigation is underway
Authorities did offer some hopeful news: The fire is now at 5 percent containment.
