Photos: Dramatic Rescue of a Beached Baby Whale
This gallery shows a beached humpback calf being helped back into the water by rescuers from the Sea World and the Queensland Department of Parks and Wildlife on Surfers Paradise beach on the Gold Coast, Australia, Monday, Aug. 8, 2011.
A crowd of hundreds on the shore at Surfers Paradise cheered as the calf, towed by two jetskis, cleared the beach and was released into the surf where he made his way back out to the ocean.
The whale later began to swim by itself.
