The Richthofen Castle, an iconic relic of Denver history, is under contract for sale.

If the deal closes, it will mark the end of 14 years of on-and-off-again efforts to sell the 35-room estate that was built by the uncle of Baron Manfred von Richthofen, better known as the Red Baron flying ace of World War I.

Baron Walter von Richthofen, a Prussian immigrant turned Colorado mining baron, conceived the idea for the limestone castle in the 1870s and finished it in 1887.

National Carousel Association comes full circle at Colorado landmarks

The 39th National Carousel Association Convention, being held in Colorado for the first time since 1994, runs Friday through Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, and one stop on their tour is Elitches amusement park in Denver.

The 135 carousel enthusiasts from across the country begin their tour in Denver and will land in Burlington to visit The Kit Carson County Carousel. Five other Colorado carousels are part of the scheduled tour for the hundreds of riders during the four day gathering, including wooden carousels in Pueblo City Park, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the Denver Zoo, Nederland and Lakeside Amusement Park.
