Prince will headline the Ogden Theatre in Denver — four shows
That’s right, Prince is coming to Denver.
He will headline shows at the Ogden Theatre (a 1,700-capacity venue) on May 12-13, playing two shows per night, at 8 and 11:30 p.m.
Tickets are $250, but Prince hasn’t played a Colorado venue smaller than 18,000 capacity in many of our lifetimes, so consider it worth it.

Anatomy of a hit song: Gotye’s big tune almost never happened, and now that it has, he’s not so sure about it
I’m thinking of a song. You’ve surely heard it, and you’ve possibly sung along with its ubiquitous chorus: “Now you’re just somebody that I used to know.”
Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” has become the biggest song of 2012, and its infectious bounce and memorable melody has taken over our collective short-term memory as much as it has dominated the airwaves.
And to think Gotye, a.k.a. Wally De Backer — who headlines Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Wednesday — almost didn’t include the song on his 2011 release “Making Mirrors.”

Jack White plays “secret show” at Denver service station

Less than six hours before he was scheduled to take the stage at Red Rocks Amphitheatre to perform for a sold-out crowd of 9,500 fans Wednesday night, Jack White’s silver Mercedes van rolled up to Isdajo Automotive on West Colfax Avenue.

White — one of the most celebrated musicians of the past 10 years for his work with the White Stripes, the Raconteurs, the Dead Weather and most recently, as a solo artist — played a 20-minute impromptu concert for about 300 fans on the sizzling pavement near the service station.

Jerry Krantz, the longtime owner of landmark Denver jazz club El Chapultepec, died this morning. He was 77.
In its heyday, El Chapultepec welcomed music legends such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as visiting rock stars like Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Bono. Krantz’s insistence on free, live, straight-ahead jazz every night of the week helped the ‘Pec — as insiders affectionately call it — stand out on the corner of 20th and Market streets in Lower Downtown.
