San Diego’s Big Bay Boom is being called a “Big Bay Bust” and “epic fail” on social media after a mishap caused all 17 minutes’ worth of fireworks to go off at once.

Erik Weihenmayer, who is best known as the first and only blind man to reach the summit of Mount Everest has a goal… Kayaking the Grand Canyon. Weihenmayer, with friend and guide Rob Raker and instructor Chris Wiegand take to the river at the Clear Creek Whitewater Park in Golden.

If you think all cats are afraid of water, meet Maliha.

The Denver Zoo is adding a species of cat to its roster, a 5-year-old “fishing cat” named Maliha, according to a zoo media release.

Prionailurus viverrinus — fishing cat — is a cat species scattered throughout southwest India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand, Sumatra, Java and Pakistan. They live primarily in wetland areas like swamps, marshes and densely vegetated areas along rivers and streams.

Swing dancers surprise Thanksgiving travelers at Denver International Airport

Holidays at the airport can sometimes be a waiting game, but Tuesday that waiting was made a little more entertaining by a flash mob. A swing dancing flash mob.

About 100 dancers from Community Minded Dance performed the Lindy Hop in DIA’s Great Hall. Passengers arriving from the train platforms and visitors picking up loved ones were treated to a nearly five-minute, swing-dance performance.

A crowd of about 30 people lined up in front of the Steak ‘n Shake in Centennial for the grand opening Thursday morning. This is the first Steak ‘n Shake to open in Colorado.

Michael Moore fires up Occupy Denver, says rest of country is watching

Filmmaker and liberal activist Michael Moore told an enthusiastic Occupy Denver crowd of about 1,000 Thursday that he was not their leader.

“There is no leader to this movement,” the 67-year-old Oscar winner, flanked by two security guard in black suits, barked into a bullhorn microphone. “That’s why it’s such a large and growing movement.”

Zombie Crawl hits 16th Street Mall in Denver

Zombies of all ages, shapes and fake blood types converged on the 16th Street Mall on Saturday for Denver’s 6th annual Zombie Crawl. Daniel Newman, the 31-year-old founder of the event, estimated that 12,000 zombies were in or near Skyline Park an hour and a half after the crawl began.

Costumes at the event ranged from simple face painting to more elaborate riffs on American pop culture and current world events.

    These go to 11: The best songs from the best movies of the 1980s

    I love the 80s! Oh wait, that’s not trademarked or anything is it? Anyway, as a teenager at the time it was hard not to be bombarded with pop music and the culture that went along with it. It was the true beginning of the information age and short attention spans (thanks MTV!). As such, pop rattled around our little brains until it eventually saturated our outlook to leave us hazily gazing upon the real world with day glo-colored glasses.

    Admittedly, a lot of it was really fun. And some of the best moments were on the silver screen. It was the time for brat packs, psychotic slashers and bafflingly bad action heroes. And, it seems we’re all nostalgic for it now — even if we weren’t born at the time.

    5. “I Melt With You” by Modern English – Often dismissed as a one-hit wonder, Modern English actually had a couple great records early in their career, especially the one that featured this hit tune. The track gained popularity after it was featured during the closing credits to like omg, one of the most totally bitchin’ films of the decade: “Valley Girl” starring a young Nicolas Cage!
